What is Counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity to explore aspects of your personal life that are confusing, troubling or upsetting you. Counselling takes place in privacy and provides you with undisturbed time, on a regular basis, where you can talk in confidence about personal issues.

Talking things over often leads to a greater understanding of yourself and your feelings, thus enabling you to find ways to improve the situation or make it more manageable. Counselling can either be short term (6-12 sessions) or go on for a longer time depending on what the issue is.

When can counselling help?

People contact counsellors for many reasons, some of which are:

Bereavement
Personal trauma
Eating distress
Stress, loneliness, isolation
Relationship difficulties
Sexual, physical or emotional abuse
Depression
Anxiety
Addiction
Panic attacks
Anger
